Depression in 21st century

Now more than happiness depression is proving to be the worldwide phenomenon , songs & series are being made about. What is this depression, is it the abnormal chemical balance in the brain or it's something more!? And why is that, as the years goes on, more and more people are depressed.
Now before we refer to the current trend lets look back to understand the history of depression. Mostly given explanation is the chemical imbalance in brain but recent studies and research gave insight to the other causes behind it. Research suggests that depression can be caused due to missing Gene link. But it's not fully disadvantage, this somehow increased the immunity of people. The most common associated symptoms of depression is tiredness, lethargic, irritability and lack of motivation to do anything which is same symptoms experienced when a person is sick. And when sick, the immune system doubles its
Workload and same is happening in this case. Depressed people have high tendency for inflammation and chronic inflammation makes people more vigilant hence the insomnia and anxiety. Inflammation is also higher in people with higher body mass index because fat tissue producing higher inflammation cytokin. And the lethargic feeling is due to preservation of energy by body because it's under impression that body is in danger.
And most of these can be confirmed with blood test but nowadays depression is working in different way and yeilding different results and hence it was concluded that it has to be with people's lifestyle. Like not getting enough sleep, chronic stress, poor diet that is high on sugar or processed carbs, high expectations, negative atmosphere and self pity and negative self talks. And while it may be different factors for different people the fort step is to identify the cause and to improve towards that. And most popular and effective activities are exercise and meditation always helps in the case. And choose something you are passionate about and work towards that.
We may cannot control the situations and people but we can definitely control how much we let them affects us and our reactions because good news is it's in your hand and you can work it out.
Note: It's for the lifestyle depression. There are plenty of depression types and if you think that you need to seek help and can't handle it please go ahead and open up and seek help. Things would get better.
