A person or thing that mends or repairs something is a 'Healer' and so is 'Music'. It mends our hearts, our soul, and even our way of living up to a certain extent. Music has been a very good healer, even from the past itself. The vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion, is the perfect definition of music. In simpler terms, It is an art form, and cultural activity, whose medium is sound.
Different people connect to this very thing in a different manner, although I am an engineer, I opted for a subject under my electives, that was Indian Classical Music, On the very first day of class, I observed that everyone has a different way & style of singing, uttering words through their mouth, some people fumbled to sing even just a small paragraph, I believe everyone can learn the techniques of how to sing, but not everyone has the gift to produce a melodious voice from their mouth, as the old people or elders in our society say: "It's a gift from Goddess Saraswati, not everyone gets that".
The fact of producing sound from the vocal cords of humans has always been fascinating to me. Earlier in my childhood, I had a misconception, that tonsils and voice boxes are the same thing, then I realized later, that both are quite different. Okay so moving back to the class sessions, I really love the power of music, that it possesses,
If you have ever noticed while watching a moving, that the background music has greater importance when it comes to connecting the audience to the movie, it helps to make the other person feel, as if they are in that particular movie, playing the role, being in the shoes of the character, tones have a very big role here. The lower chords produce a tone which makes you feel sad, gloomy, these are also called the dark tones, why do you feel sad after listening to particular kind of music, the reason is the tones. They hold the power to make you feel of a certain emotion. Take an example of a horror movie, if you watch a particular scene of a movie, without background music, you won't feel that much horrific, but with the addition of background music, it adds the feels to the clip. Sounds Interesting right?
So, How do you feel while listening to music? What kind of music do you like? Does it help in solving your problems? Do let me know.
